MTN's Deadline To Pay N1.4Trillion By November

As the controversy over the N1.4 trillion fine on MTN lingers, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given MTN Nigeria a deadline of 16 November to pay the fine imposed on it for failing to register the personal details of 5.1million subscribers.

This deadline is coming after the  South Africa’s stock exchange, JSE Ltd, launched an investigationinto the timing of the operator’s announcement of its penalty.

According to a report, the spokesman for the Nigerian Communications Commission, the country’s telecoms watchdog, was quoted as saying that the outcome of the discussion may affect the date.

A statement by MTN said its CEO is still in talks with the Nigerian authorities and its senior management and advisers also talking to JSE, afterthe announcement of the fine knocked around 20 percent off the company’s stock price.‘‘

That’s why they are having the discussion so that they can reach a solution,” the spokesperson said.The report also said Nigeria’s presidency and internal security agency are involved in the talks.

As for the JSE probe, the head of the regulatory division, Andre Visser, said “the investigation will follow due process to establish whether there have been any breaches of the listings requirements and can be a lengthy process.”

Under South African capital markets rules, companies are required to immediately warn shareholders of price-sensitive information.

Meanwhile, Fitch Ratings has revised MTN Group’soutlook to negative, owing “to the risk of a significant cash outflow due to a substantial fine imposed on MTN’s Nigerian operations, which could increase leverage and pressure MTN’s credit metrics.”

Star Boy Entertainment singer, Wizkid is in the eye of the storm again.

This time, some students of the American University of Nigeria in Adamawa, accused him of failing to honour an invitation to perform in their school, even after he had been paidthe sum of N8.9m.

Wizkid One of the students with the name @Mr Tawiti went on Twitter to attack Wizkid in a series of tweets.

Man Jailed For Forwarding Text Message Containing Joke About President Mugabe To His Neighbours

A 38-year-old Zimbabwean man named Titus Maposa has been jailed for forwarding a joke on Mugabe to all his neighbours.

According to Manica Post newspaper, Maposa's neighbours sent the text message to the police and he was arrested.

The offending joke was a message falsely attributed to Ecocash, Zimbabwe's mobile money transfer scheme, which said the president had deposited $1 500 (R20 745) into their account.

The newspaper said the message read:"Ecocash Transfer Confirmation: 1,500 US from Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

Thank you for supporting ZANU-PF."Maposa was being charged under a section of Zimbabwe's Postal and Telecommunications Act prohibiting the sending of messages the sender"knows to be false."

The report said Maposa insisted he did not mean to make his neighbours "anxious or nervous"."I was intending to share a social media joke," he said.

Although Maposa was not being prosecuted under Zimbabwe's infamous anti-insult laws, it remains a crime to insult Mugabe, who has been in power since 1980.

This N1.4trillion Fine Is Too Heavy For Us-MTN Pleads

Three days after Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, slammed a N1.4 trillion penalty on MTN for failure to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards, MTN group has cried out that the fine was too extreme, even as it continues to engage the regulator on how to resolve the issue.

MTN Group claimed that NCC refused to listen to its plea to reconsider its stand on the penalty slammed on its Nigerian arm last week.

According to a report, MTN Nigeria spokeswoman, Chineze Gbenga-Oluwatoye, had said:“recommendations were put forward with respect to the non-commensurable nature of the fine but the NCC did not accept recommendations that the fine of 200,000 Naira ($1,005) per SIM was too heavy.”

“MTN Nigeria contacted the regulator with concerns that a demand to disconnect SIM cards by a certain deadline would cause “severe disruption” for customers and recommended a staggered process to limit thepossible impact,” said Oluwatoye.

As a result of the huge fine, MTN shares plummeted about 20% this week in Johannesburg.

The biggest four-day drop since 2008, valuing the company at about 284billion rand ($21 billion).The NCC is seeking the penalties because MTN missed a deadline to disconnect 5.1 million subscribers and as a result MTN is now reviewing its management in the country.

Meanwhile, Financial analysts have pointedly said that Nigeria government is at risk of scaring off investors it can’t afford to lose if the N1.4 trillion fine slammed on MTN holds through.

He is a young lad and said he had a bit to drink but he didn’t really know how bad his injuries were."He had his head over the sink and he was bleeding everywhere.

He doesn’t remember getting hit more than once but he must have been, looking at the injuries. He doesn’t know if he was knocked out for a few seconds.

Teacher Flogs Student To Death In Ibadan

Students of IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, yesterday went on rampage following the death of one of their colleagues allegedly flogged to death by a teacher.

The student reportedly slumped and gave up the ghost as a result of the severe punishmentfrom a teacher for arriving late to school.

Valuable properties of the school were destroyed by the students who took to protest before the members of Nigerian police force came to rescue the situation, the National Tribune reported.

The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as at press time while policemen had cordoned off the area.

An eye witnesses who claimed anonymity said “trouble started when the student arrived school after classes had commenced for the day, he reportedly told the teacher he came late due to illness."

“At that point,” the eye witness added, “the principal, who was passing by asked the teacher the cause of the discussion.”

The principal allegedly ordered the teacher to flog the student for coming late and in the process of the flogging, the student slumped.

“All our efforts to save the student proved abortive,’’ the eyewitness added.No fewer than 10 fully armed policemen were seen on surveillance at the premises of the school with three of their vehicles parked near the school gates.

Most of the school furniture-chairs and tables,cabinets were destroyed by the protesting students and files, registers scattered around.

Windows and doors of the staff room were also vandalized.Teachers and administrative workers of the school were no where to be found as they tookto their heels immediately the students startedthe protest.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu said the Police is investigating the matter and promised to get back.

China has ended its one-child policy and will allow all couples to have two children.  

This is driven by fears that an aging population could jeopardize the country's economic ascent and put too much pressure on  the aged.

The Communist Party leadership ended its decades-old “one child” policy on Thursday, announcing that all married couples would be allowed to have two children.

The one -child policy was imposed by Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese leader in late 1979 and  couples who break the family planning laws face losing their jobs and being fined.

In some cases, mothers have been forced to abort their babies or be sterilized.

According to the National Health and Family Planning Commission, which enforces the policy,Abolishing the one-child policy would “increase labor supply and ease pressures from an aging population,”“This will benefit sustained and healthy economic development,” the commission said.

A law student says she is being picked on for looking stylish and  beautiful.She says women need to stop being critical of each other's appearance - after claiming classmates started judging her for making too much effort.

First year Paula Ursu, 18, has only been at universityfor a few weeks, but says she is getting strange comments and looks based on her appearance .

She says she has been asked why she makes so much of an effort and that she gets looked down upon for wearing make-up, heels and doing her hair.

Injured Deer Wanders Into Hospital' s Emergency Room

Emergency room employees atStrong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, were shocked when an injured deer entered the hospital on Monday afternoon.

The deer arrived just as an ambulance crew was taking in a patient.

The deer managed to get in about 20 feet into the ER before security corralled it, strapped it to a stretcher, and carried it out.

Jim DeFerio said he saw the whole event as he was being wheeled around the hospital hours after havinga hearth attack.

He said:"I turned around and there was a deer I would say about 3 feet high, a small deer, and he ran past me," DeFerio told WHAM TV from his hospital bed."

It ran right by me slipping as it went and everybody kind of moved aside.

What are you going to do? You see a deer coming down fast, so everybody moves."Teresa Hill, an administrator at the Medical Center, said that the deer hit the car that her daughter, Carly, was driving.

The deer "literally popped out of nowhere almost from the cemetery -- and struck her car," Hill said. "It happened right in front of the emergency entrance so she pulled in and got out of the car."

The daughter suffered a sore neck and the car's headlight was broken.An officer for the Monroe County Animal Control Dept. had to euthanize the deer.

Youth Who Intends Running From TaskForce Ran To His Death

An unidentified Hausa Youth jumped over the Obalende Bridge, Lagos and died instantly, on sighting operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, thinking that they were after him.

Taskforce Officials stormed Obalende to enforce the law on Environmental Sanitation when the incident occurred.

A trader who identified himself simply as John said the deceased from Adamawa State, North East Nigeria, was watching the Taskforce Officials from atop the bridge as they were dislodging street traders and illegal motorcycle operators under the bridge beside the Oando Filling Station when he suddenly sighted another Taskforce Officials’ patrol van in the opposite direction.

The trader said, thinking that the Taskforce Officials would arrest him, the deceased in a bid to escape jumped over the bridge and landed on top of the iron beautification barriers under the bridge.

He sustained serious injuries on his head and other parts of his body and died instantly.

The trader stated that immediately the incident occurred a mob attacked the Taskforce officials, vandalized their vehicle and pursued them towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

The witness said the Taskforce Officials were able to escape the irate mobs by shooting in the air to scare them away.

After one year of his twin brother's passing, the other brother of Yoruba actors popular known as 'Ibeji Oran' has died.

Pregnant Wife Murders Husband By Crushing His Testicles

Tragedy struck yesterday in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, when a pregnant woman crushed her husband’s testicles, which led to his sudden death.

But it was a double tragedy for the family, as his friend who took him to  the mortuary was killed in a fatal accident, a day after his friend’s death along Otuocha-Adani Road.

A source close to the family where Governor Obiano of the state hails from, Said that the middle aged couple (name withheld) had a quarrel before they went to bed.

The woman, who was said to be carrying five months old pregnancy, had accused the husband of having an affair with another lady outside.

It was gathered that trouble started when they went to bed; the woman was said to have gone to the man’s room, held his testicles and crushed it with an object which led to his sudden death.

But tragedies did not stop there, as the victim’s friend (name withheld), a commercial motorcycle rider, who led others to deposit his corpse in a mortuary in Onitsha, was said to have gone to work the following day and was killed by a hit a run vehicle.

The Onitsha Area Commander, Mr. Philip Ezekiel, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), confirmed the unfortunate incident but did not give details..

Airports To Be Shut Down On Sunday Midnight

According to reports, there will be no flight operations in all airports across the country as all terminals will be shut.

It was gathered that airports across the country are to be shut down on Monday, October 26, as the two leading unions in the sector on Thursday, October 22, threatened to shut down Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA by midnight on Sunday.

The unions, National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, in a letter dated 21st October, 2015 to their members accused NCAA of not adhering to the condition of service with respect to promotion of workers and other welfare issues.

The letter jointly signed by Secretary General, NUATE and Secretary General NAAPE, Comrades Olayinka Abioye and Aba Ocheme threatened to shut down the agency from midnight Sunday till further notice.

The unions insisted that the withdrawal of service by the workers became expedient in order to safeguard the integrity of NCAA’s condition of service.The unions stated that the action of the Director- General of NCAA, Capt.

Muhtar Usman breached section 3.4 of condition of service, adding that all efforts to discuss with the management had been futile.

The letter added: “By the copy of this notice, the general public is hereby informed of this development and the implications that all safety regulations activities of the NCAA will be unavailable from that time and date.

The notice will remain in force until otherwise directed by the secretariat of our unions.”

Four Women Accused Of WitchCraft, Burned To Death By Angry Mob

Four women suspected of witchcraft being tortured, stripped, tied up and burned by an angry mob in Papua New Guinea.

The women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill in a village in Enga province in August.

Social media posts said the women were accused of “invisibly” taking the man’s heart, and then putting it back after they were tortured.

In their attackers’ eyes this would also prove their guilt as sorcerers.In the footage, the women are being prodded and threatened with machetes while being questioned by a group of men.

According to the translation the women deny having done anything, and plead with their attackers.

The woman begs: "My son, stop it!” says one woman,laying on the ground.“Talk out, where did you put it?” comes the reply.

“Burn her with the wire.”“I’ve got nothing to do with it,” says another woman. “I am a mother with five children.”But the attackers ignore their pleas, with one saying:"Don't just hit her, burn her."It is thought at least one woman died after the ordeal but there was no confirmation of that.

The video was initially shared on social media by students, who, according to one source, did it to showthey approved of the torturers' actions.

8Million Naira Stolen From Osinbanjo's Account By Hackers

Policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Ikeja are investigating an alleged theft of N8million from Vice Pres ident Yemi Osinbajo’s bank account.

It was gathered that two undergraduate students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka identi fied as Ebuka Orumba and Patrick Nwafor allegedly hacked into the account of Simmons Cooper Partner, a law firm said to belong to Vice President Osinbajo and allegedly stole eight million naira (N8miilion) from it.

According to investiga tion, the undergraduates Nwafor is a final year 500level student of Envi ronmental Science while Orumba is a final year Computer Engineering student.

It was gathered that the students used fraudulent means to hack into the email of the Account man ager of the VP’s law firm, one Mr. Tunde Irukera, and they allegedly sent a mail to UBA PLC branch to one Obuba Fidelia on July 2nd instructing the bank to transfer eight mil lion naira from Simmions Cooper Bank account to three different bank ac counts they opened for the fraud.

It was further gathered that the undergraduates allegedly connived with a tricycle rider one Artor Kalu to open a bank ac count with Zenith bank ac­count number 2086943174 where three million naira (N3,000,000) was trans ferred to with the falsename Engineer Asukwo Okoro.The remaining amounts were said to have been transferred to two other unnamed bank accounts.

Luck however ran out on the undergraduates when their alleged gang member, Mr. Kalu went to the Zenith bank account at Mushin to withdraw the N3,000,000 but was nabbed by detectives from SARS following a tip off from the bank.The police subsequently arrested Kalu and following his statement, the police arrested Orumba but Nwafor escaped.Following the investiga tion, the police discovered that Kalu with the help of others got a fake Driver’s license which he used to open the Zenith Bank ac count.

The police has since charged Orumba and Kalu to court on a 5 count charge on conspiracy, stealing and fraud while efforts is on to arrest Nwafor whom the others claimed to be the master mind of the fraud...

Brother Kills Two Sisters And Injures Friend

Matthew A. Hayden, 21, has been charged with the murder of of Sarah and Elizabeth Hayden, and the attempted murder of their friend Joshua Hacker, in Cloerain Township on Wednesday.

He shot them dead as the group sat in their parents' minivan in the back of a home at 3455 Banning Road, according to court documents.

According to Jim Love, Colerain Township public information officer, the sisters were pronounced deadat the home.

The victim's friend, Hacker was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Police said the victims were all teens but their exact ages are not known yet.

Hayden surrendered without incident to police shortly after 2:30 a.m. He used a 9 mm handgun in the shooting, was arrested and charged later in the morning.

He faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The shooter emptied a magazine and then reloaded.

There were people in the home at the time but they don't seem to have witnessed the shooting, Love added. "It's kind of a hodge-podge situation; not clear that this is one congealed family," he said.

Love said many shell casings from different caliber guns were found on the street but they appeared to have been there for a while and it is not clear if they were from the fatal shooting.

"Question iswhat started this. Is it drug-related, was it an anger situation, is it a relationship situation? Why were theyup at 2:30 in the morning, in the backyard? Those questions are all on the table," he said.

Former Colerain High School football coach Steve Schweitzer, 71, whose well-manicured property is across the road from the home where the shooting occurred, said the residents of 3455 Banning are the exception in the diverse and close-knit neighborhood.

"That side of the street is totally different," Schweitzersaid. "This is almost like a climax to what, I guess, was going on over there."

Love said the property is known to police as they've made prior runs to the house for unspecified reasons.

Army Gang Rape's Woman In Front Of Boyfriend Añd Makes Her Watch Them Drown Him In South Africa

A woman was allegedly raped in front of her horrified boyfriend by an armed gang who then tied him up and threw him into a lake where he drowned.

Another couple with them were also attacked and the man bound and drowned in the lake alongside his friend.

The friends were taking a walk in Rhodes Park, Kensington, near Johannesburg, South Africa , around 9pm local time on Saturday when they were attacked by the all-male gang.

One of the women managed to escape, but the other was captured and raped by a gang member in front of her tied-up boyfriend, according to South African media reports .

After the sickening ordeal, the men, aged 25 and 32, were thrown into the dam at the park and drowned.One of the attackers is said to have been carrying a knife, while another had a firearm.

South Africa Police Service spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said the bodies of the two drowned men were recovered by police divers in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Intelligence Bureau, a network of private detectives who attended the scene, said the women were both forced to watch their partners drown, but police havenot confirmed the report.

Cleveland Police spokesperson Constable Mpho Mashakane said:“Two men, accompanied by their girlfriends, were walking at the park at about 6.30pm yesterday when they were approached by the group of men.“One of the suspects raped one female victim.

The bodies of the two male victims, aged 25 and 32, werelater found by police divers,”No arrests have been made and police are desperateto trace the culprits.

Family Of Electrocuted UNILAG Student To Be Compensated

On Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at about 7pm an 11 KV overhead transmission cable belonging to the EKEDP, which supplies power to Onike and other neighbouring communities around UNILAG fell and electrocuted Oluchi Anekwe, a 300-Level Accounting student.

Well, the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, UNILAG, Professor Rahmon Bello has said that adequate compensation must be made by Eko Electricity Distribution Plc, EKEDP to the family of late Miss Oluchi Anekwe.

Bello who spoke during a press briefing at the institution’s conference centre said:

‘’The Federal Government panel findings has established that the faulty cable which caused Oluchi’s death belong to EKEDP and they must pay compensation to the family of the deceased.

‘’EKEDP has put in place an Assurance Policy by an Insurance company whereby a compensation will bepaid to family of a deceased in case of lost of life.

The Insurance company has been contacted to comeand assess the damage and give their recommendations for compensation.
