Court Hearing Begins In The Case Of A 15yr Old Nigerian Boy Joey Adesina Who Was Stabbed To Death In London

On December 5, 2014, Joey Adesina was tracked, chased, cornered in a dead-end street in Padbury Court, off Bethnal Green road and stabbed to death by two men, Lincoln Olaribigbe, 23, and Georgie Philips, 20, according to prosecutors in court yesterday Tuesday, September 29.

The 15-year-old had been with a group of friends in Hoxton when he was chased by men from a blue Mercedes, the jury was told.

He hid with a friend behind a parked car in the dead-end street but was spotted, pinned against a fence, then dragged away and knifed.

Adesina from Dagenham staggered to a local convenience store where he collapsed and died. George Phillips and Lincoln Olaribigbe deny murdering the boy. Anthony Orchard QC, prosecuting, said it was not known who had actually committed the stabbing and the motivation "may never be completely clear".

But everyone in the Mercedes had been part of a joint plan to attack whoever they could catch in Joel’s group, so they were "in it together".Mr Orchard told the jury that earlier in the evening a silver Astra, linked to Olaribigbe, had driven repeatedly at Joel’s group outside a pub. CCTV catches them jump out of the way and Joel throws a rock at the car.

Some of the group, including Joel, had knives themselves, the court heard. As the group headed off, Olaribigbe transferred to the Mercedes, linked to Phillips, to search for them.

"Joel and his group of friends had been tracked and chased by two cars at different times in the hours andminutes leading up to the stabbing," said Mr Orchard.Near the Bethnal Green Road the car screeched onto the pavement by them and they ran in different directions.

Joel and his friend "ran into an apparent dead end road and hid behind a parked silver car," said Mr Orchard. "Two men were standing by the Mercedes which had its headlights pointing down thedead end.

The two men were saying: ‘Where did they go? (Joel’s friend) asked him if the men had gone. Unfortunately Joel poked his head over the top of the silver car to look and one of the men said words to the effect of ‘that’s one of them.’"

The following day the blue Mercedes was found burned out in an Islington car park. The case continues.

An Unsual Allergy That Makes Girl React To Food Only After Exercise

A teenage girl in Canada had an unusual food allergythat showed up only after she exercised, according toa new report of her case.

The 17-year-old's allergy first appeared when she had a small snack — a few rice crackers and hummus - right before she worked out on a treadmill at her home. She ran for just 10 minutes before her lips started to swell.

She stopped running, but her symptoms became severe, and she developed the puffy eyes, hives, itching and abdominal pain that occur in the body-wide allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis.

The girl was taken to the emergency room and treated with Benadryl and epinephrine, and she recovered about 3 hours later, the report said.

"We hope that this case will serve as an important reminder that although rare, food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis exists and making a diagnosis can lead to life-saving preventative strategies," the researchers at Montreal Children's Hospital, who worked on the girl's case, wrote in theirreport, published online Sept. 3 in
the Journal of Medical Case Reports.

The girl later went to an allergy clinic, where testing revealed that chickpeas had triggered her allergic reaction.

However, the girl had previously eaten chickpeas on a number of occasions without any symptoms, and she had never experienced allergic symptoms after exercising, when she hadn't eaten chickpeas.

The doctors suspected that the girl had food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis, or FDEIA, a rare allergy that occurs only when a person consumes a particular food just before exercise.

People with the condition don't react to either the food or the exercise by itself. Unlike other food allergies, FDEIA is more common in teens and adults than in children, the researchers said.Exactly why the allergy occurs only after exercise is not clear.

It's thought that the physical effort needed in exercise triggers a physiological change that enhances the absorption of the allergen in the intestines, the researchers said.

The doctors recommended that the girl avoid eating chickpeas, or foods like hummus that contain chickpeas, 2 hours before or after exercise.

Since her diagnosis, the girl has eaten hummus and fresh chickpeas without exercising, and she has not experienced any allergic reactions, the researchers said.

Ensure Stolen Funds Returned Buhari Urges World Leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday appealed to world leaders, in whose domain stolen funds and assets are being kept by corrupt individuals, to help return such to their countries of origin.

Buhari also called on the international community to urgently redouble its efforts at strengthening mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption. He said in his address to world leaders at the 70th United Nations General Assembly holding in New York.

The President identified corruption, cross-border financial crimes, cyber crimes and human traffickingas major challenges of the 21st century, which he said the international community must work to collectively overcome.

He said his administration was determined to confront corruption and illicit financial outflows.Buhari told the world leaders, “Let me reaffirm the Nigerian government’s unwavering commitment to fight corruption and illicit financial flows.

“By any consideration, corruption and cross border financial crimes are impediments to development, economic growth and the realisation of the well-being of citizens across the globe.

“Nigeria is ready and willing to partner with international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption.“In particular, I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.

”The President also suggested the adoption of peace as a seventh essential element of the Sustainable Development Goals, which was adopted last Friday by world leaders in New York.He added, “The Secretary-General has grouped the SDGs into what he calls six ‘essential elements’ namely: Dignity, Prosperity, Justice, Partnership, Planet and People.

“As a prerequisite to these and as we look at history and remember the terrible events that gave rise to the birth of the United Nations in 1945, I would like topropose a seventh: PEACE.“Peace is close to the hearts of Nigerians, as we are in the front line in the war on terror.

Boko Haram’s war against the people of Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon may not attract as much worldwide attention as the wars in the Middle East but the suffering is just as great and the human cost is equally high.

“This is a war between progress and chaos; betweendemocracy and the rule of law. Boko Haram celebrates violence against the weak and the innocent and deplorably, they hide behind their perverted interpretation of Islam. Boko Haram is as far away from Islam as anyone can think of.

”Buhari assured the global community that his administration would do all within its powers to quickly overcome the challenge of terrorism and insecurity.“The new Nigerian government, which I have the honour to head, moved with dispatch to put in a boldand robust strategy to defeat Boko Haram.

Nigeria and her neighbours, Cameroon, Chad and Niger plus Benin, are working together to face this common threat within the regional framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“We have established a multinational joint task forceto confront, degrade and defeat Boko Haram. We have driven them away from many of their strongholds, killed or captured many of their operatives or commanders and freed several hundreds of hostages,” he said.

He also assured the world leaders that rescuing the Chibok girls kidnapped in their school in Borno Stateover a year ago remained one of the major objectives of his administration.“We are working round the clock to ensure their safety and eventual reunion with their families.

The girls are constantly on our minds and in our plans,” he said. The President condemned what he called the new and dangerous dimension of human trafficking in theworld.

“We in Africa are grieved to see hundreds of our able-bodied men and women dying in the de

sert or drowning in the Mediterranean. We condemn in the strongest terms these traffickers and will support any measures to apprehend and bring them to justice,” the President said.aaNoting that the world was witnessing a dreadful increase in conflicts fuelled by availability of small arms and light weapons, Buhari called on the international community to work towards the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty toensure that small arms and light weapons could onlybe legally transferred.

He reminded the global gathering that peaceful co-existence and self-determination were among thekey principles that led to the establishment of the UN.

He also called for the urgent resolution of the question of self determination for the people of Palestine and Western Sahara. He said, “The international community has come to pin its hopes on resolving the Palestinian issue through the two – states solution, which recognises the legitimate right of each state to exist in peace and security.

“The world has no more excuses or reasons to delaythe implementation of the long list of Security Council resolutions on this question.

Neither do we have the moral right to deny any people their freedom or condemn them indefinitely to occupation and blockade.”

We Can Help Nigeria Produce Champions-Obikwelu Alozie

Former European champions   Francis Obikwelu and Gloria Alozie have said they are in Nigeria to help the country produce track and field champions.

Alozie dumped Nigeria for Spain after helping Nigeria win silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Obikwelu switched his international allegiance to Portugal a year later – after representing Nigeria at Sydney 2000.

Both athletes, who are coaches/judges in the ongoing Top Sprinter Genesis, an athletic talent hunt, organised by Making of Champions, alongside other Olympians, Deji Aliu and Uchenna Emedolu, also gave reasons why they abandoned Nigeria.

Obikwelu, who won silver for Portugal in 100m at the2004 Athens Olympics, told reporters in Lagos that he dumped Nigeria for the European nation   because he was poorly treated by the Athletic Federation Nigeria when he had a knee injury at Sydney 2000.

Obikwelu, whose 1999 Nigerian record in 200m has not been broken, said he would help produce athletes, who can win medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He said, “What happened has happened, I’m here to give 150 per cent to help produce champions for Nigeria.

We can produce athletes that can win medals at the Olympics.“If you give me an athlete that is not well known, in the next one year I guarantee that I can make him run faster.

I’m here to produce athletes that will break my Nigerian record in 200m.”The retired sprinter added, “A lot of people in Nigeria were not happy that I switched allegiance to Portugal.

I was not happy too. I want to use this opportunity to lay it down. I remember the Sydney Olympics, I was ranked number two in the world in 200m. I was in top shape but unfortunately I had a knee problem.

I told my federation (AFN) that I had aproblem with my knee and they said that I was lying.I went on and used the knee to run up to the semifinals and I could not run any more.“My knee was bad.

They took me to hospital and I did MRI scan and the doctor said ‘I don’t think you will continue running, your knee is bad and totally destroyed.’ I cried to the AFN and the only thing they told me was that they don’t need me; that they could produce another Obikwelu; that Nigeria had a lot of talents. I asked them to support me so that I could go for surgery.

They said they would approve some money for me for the surgery.“At the end, I went to Canada for the surgery. After the surgery, I had to stay in hospital for another two months. I almost died. Nobody from the federation called me. It was just my family.

I came back to Nigeria on crutches. The money was approved but all they could tell me was that they didn’t know where the money was. I went back to Portugal and I said to myself ‘I’m done’. I love my country.

This is where I started but what happened to me was not good. I think Nigeria should support its athletes when they have injuries. It is not about money. It’s also about respect and care. In Portugal, they support me, even if I’m not doing well.

They come to me and ask ‘what do you need?’. This is what athletes need.”Alozie said, “It was after I changed my nationality that I really knew what I had done. I went to Spain asa junior and I was still young so I did not really knowwhat I was doing.

“When they tried me and they said I had to officially switch, I considered that my home. My club, my coach and everything was in Valencia and I had to change.

That was why I changed.“I’m really sorry I changed. I didn’t really see it that way. But thank God I’m back and I promised to make amends. I’m here to produce another Gloria Alozie, who can win medals for Nigeria...

Police Man To Die By Hanging For Killing A Sachet Water Dealer

A Rivers State High Court has sentenced one Inspector Samuel Timothy of the Nigeria Police to death by hanging for shooting and killing a sachet water dealer, Onyekachi Nwasouba.

The court’s ruling is coming about five years after Nwasouba was murdered by the police at about 5amon November 10, 2010 at No. 34, Old Aba Road, PortHarcourt.Nwasouba, who was a graduate of Industrial Chemistry, was branded an armed robber by the police while he was on his way to distribute his products to customers within the Port Harcourt metropolis.

The deceased was shot dead by a team of policemen, led by Timothy, at the front of his residence, even after he (Nwasouba) shouted to the hearing of the policemen that he was only a pure water producer and not an armed robber.

Delivering his judgment on Monday, the trial judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, declared that the convict (Timothy) demonstrated an act of inhumanity through his action.

Justice Enebeli, whose ruling took about three hours, however, discharged and acquitted one Corporal Moses, who had been standing trial together with the convict.

The judge said that based on the testimonies of witnesses, including members of the patrol team in the case, the convict was an “inhuman, trigger-happy policeman, who engages in murder; a hater ofhumankind and a merciless killer.

”Explaining that the killing of the sachet water seller by the convict was deliberate, Justice Enebeli, maintained that Timothy should die by hanging.

The trial judge added that based on the law and the circumstances surrounding the death of the graduate of Industrial Chemistry, he had no power tore duce the sentence.“

According to Section 319 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I do not have the power to reduce your sentence.

That you, Inspector Timothy Samuel be hanged on your neck until you are dead,” he held.

Justice Enebeli stated that Corporal Moses was discharged and acquitted because it became clear that the policemen on duty never conspired to kill the victim (Nwasouba).

Blogger Arrested For Writing About Governor Amosuns Wife

The Ogun State Police  Command has said that a blogger, Emmanuel Ojo, is currently in its custody.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this on Monday to our correspondent on the telephone.

He said Ojo was being detained at the Command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for questioning.

The suspect was said to have been trailed and arrested by security men on Saturday and detained at Ibara Police Station, Abeokuta.

Ojo was arrested for a story that exposed the alleged quizzing the wife of the Ogun State governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, in London, for money laundering.

In the story, Mrs. Amosun was alleged to have been detained by the London Police for being in possession of US300,000.

She has since denied being involved in any money laundering saga.

Adejobi said the Command received a complaint from the state government about the blogger which led to his arrest.

Adejobi said investigations were still being conducted on the matter.

He said, “We received a complaint from the state government on the suspect, and he was arrested. Presently, he is with us at Eleweran. We are still conducting our investigations. If he is found wanting, he will be charged to court accordingly.”

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, said the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, was not connected with the arrest of the blogger, as being speculated in some quarters.

He, however, confirmed that the state government made a formal complaint to the police and the Director of the Department of State Services, about a false allegation that the blogger allegedly made against the governor’s wife.

He said, “The government reported the matter formally to the police and the state Director, Department of Security Services.

“The report by the blogger on the First lady is false and calculated to rubbish her image. The governor just arrived from the holy pilgrimage on Sunday; so he did not order the arrest of the Blogger"...

I told him Ido not know anything that the only thing she told us was that she wanted to act film with my babies. Before she did not want to talk, but when people threatened her, she now told them that I am innocent. That she wanted to get money from the man.

That woman is a criminal,” Mrs Uche said. When interrogated, the suspect said she wanted to use the twins to get money from the retired officer for her children’s school fees.“Please I am sorry, have mercy on me. I am a poor widow and I have two children.

I begged their parents that I wanted to act film with the twins and the twins’ father told his wife to follow me.I wanted to use them to collect money from the man because I used to date his son after I lost my husband.

Before he travelled abroad last year, I got pregnant for him but I aborted the baby. So, because I needed money, I decided to use the twins and show his father so that I can getmoney from him and pay my children’s school fees.

I did not plan to sell them and I did not know that things will turn out this way,” she said.

Contacted, the command spokesman, Joseph Offor, a DeputySuperintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the woman’s arrest.

Two Month Old Baby Who Lived In Car With Homeless Parents Dies

A two-month-old baby who lived in a car with his homeless parents has tragically died. The baby boy, known only as Donald, was born prematurely two months ago and the cause of his death is unknown.

Donald ended up sleeping in the car after his parents were evicted from a house they were renting and couldn't afford the deposit for a new place.Jane gave birth to Donald, her first child, on July 6 byemergency caesarean after suffering from pre-eclampsia and kidney problems.

She said at the time of his birth: "I love him to bits. I just want him to be safe."He's my baby. I'm not going to let any harm come to him.

We're all together, we're still a family unit."Claire Matthews, who runs the Hope for Food soup kitchen in Bournemouth, worked closely with the family. She said the family are "grief-stricken".

"They are in a very dark place at the moment, they have nothing to live for now," she said.Claire said Donald's mum, known only as Jane, had moved to Dorset from Kent while still pregnant to escape the threat of domestic violence from an ex-partner.

Hope for Food has now offered to help pay for tragic Donald's funeral.

It is believed his devastated parents are currently living in a bed and breakfast and have said in the past they have been let down by local councils unable to find them permanent housing.

Claire said: "Because the mother was from Kent the local authorities wouldn't help her, despite the father being from Bournemouth.

"They were never after hand-outs - they just wanted support."After Donald's birth they moved back to Kent because that's what they were told they needed to do in order to get the help they needed.

"The authorities there put them up in a B&B but then they phoned to say Donald had died. We don't know why at the moment, but there will be an inquest to find out."It is disgusting that something like this could happen this day and age.

If they had just had some help from the local authorities when they first asked then Donald would still be here.

"Ben Tomlin, housing services manager for the Borough of Poole, said: "Borough of Poole was contacted by the mother and though she was not eligible, she was provided with as much support and guidance as possible.

"She last approached us in May and hadn't returned to Poole for help after her baby was born. Our deepest sympathies are with her at this time...

Kidnappers Murder Couple In Enugu After Police freed victim kept in their Vicinity

Mr Marcel Ossai Aba who was slaughtered with his wife, Jacinta, at Amaja in Enugu Ezike about eight days ago might have been killed by kidnappers.

Vanguard reports that,Aba was sleeping with his wife and three children penultimate week when someunknown persons woke him up and broke his head with a cutlass.

The assailants later went into his wife’s room and removed her one-year-old daughter who she was breast feeding before severing her head. The assailants left the scene of crime without removing any material or property.

However, investigations by Vanguard revealed that Aba and his wife were killed after an abducted man from Anambra State was rescued by the police in a bush near his house.

Those who spoke on the condition of anonymity at Amaja, informed Vanguard that an unidentified man whose mouth was covered with a black cloth, was seen in a bush which separates the village from Amaja with Adupi in Benue State,Aba lived at the border with his family.

It was gathered that another woman had found the abducted man and ran back to inform her husband who consequently alerted members of the vigilante group in the area.

The members of the vigilante were also said to have alerted the nearest police station in the area, which sent detectives to free the kidnap victim.

It was gathered that the abductors of the unidentified victimusually visited him between 2 am and 3.30 am each day to feed him.

However, sources said that when the kidnappers visited the area where they hid their victim in the bush, they were disappointed that the people living nearby alerted the police men who untied their victim and went to the nearby house to kill the couple.

An 11 year old daughter of the deceased, Chinonso narrated how her parents were killed in cold when her parents were killed at the palace of the Onyishi Amaja, Eze Nwidoko, where the people of the area returned en- masse to discuss the strange development weekend said that the assailants killed her father before killed her mother.”We were sleeping in the night when my mother noticed that some people were flashing their torches outside but were not talking.

As she was talking, the people came into our room and took her baby who was sucking her breast away from her and threw him to Ikedi, 5, before cutting my mother’s neck.

”The whole place was dark, We did not know when they left, After waiting for sometime I went to my father’s room and saw that his head was also cut, I used the lantern which was lit by mother before we went to bed.

Later I came out with Ikedi but the whole place was still dark,”It was later in the morning that we called those nearby who started shouting and calling others to come and see what had happened,” Chinonso who was carrying the last child of her mother said.

The traditional ruler of Amaja, Igwe Ignatius Idoko, aka Atlas, said that his community was the most neglected border area in the state,”We have been appealing to the relevant authorities to establish a police station between us and the people of Benue and Kogi states who are our neighbours.

Igwe Idoko who took Vanguard on a motorcycle to the family house of the deceased couple where it was discovered that the door leading to the man’s room was opened by the deceased for his assailantswhile the one leading to his wife’s own was broken has vowed that the community would leave no stoneunturned to get at the root of the matter.

Onyishi Idoko Igwe Idoko said that the couple had died for the liberation of the people of Amaja just as Jesus died for the liberation of mankind adding that the people would cooperate with security agencies toensure that justice was done.

DonJazzy Ignores Dbanj On Stage At Fortified

All hopes of  Dbanj and Donjazzy working together may be far fetched as Donjazzy reportedly ignored Dbanj's call to come on stage.

According to Vanguard, the snub occurred on Sunday, September 20,at the Eko Hotel-venue of 2face Idibia’s Fortyfied Concert.

D’banj mounted the stage to perform some of his hit songs to the delight of the audience, and halfway through, he said he was going to perform a song, ‘Feeling Good’ produced by Don Jazzy and featuring 2face that was leaked online before it could be properly released.

He beckoned on Don Jazzy to join him on stage to perform the song, but Jazzy remained glued to his seat with new Mavin signees, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Dija.

Even when 2face begged the duo to produce one more hit together, Don Jazzy remained resolute. In 2face’s words, ‘Don Jazzy and D’banj, abeg make una do one more song, just one…. I take God beg una.

’D’banj instantly responded with the words, “Sure! It’s going to happen,” while Don Jazzy still remained on his seat without even a smile.

This led many of the guests in attendance to insinuate that D’banj was more eager for a come-back than Don Jazzy is.

Police Shouldnt Take Glory For Falae's Release,We Paid Ransom-Family Speaks Up

The impression created by the police that the former minister of finance and chieftain of Afenifere,Chief Olu Falae was released by his abductors without paying ransom has been rebuffed.

According to theSUN,a family member of the elder statesman said contrary to the claim by the police authorities, ransom was paid before Chief Falae was eventually released.

The family source also berated the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase of claiming the glory for Falae’s release saying the police boss just came to Ondo for jamboree “because Police didnot have any input in Baba’s release.

”He regained his freedom after spending four days in the kidnappers’ den..“I wonder why people don’t investigate well before talking. It will be very unfair to give any kudos to the police over Chief Falae’s release having being held hostage for four days.

“If we relied on Police to rescue Baba and ignored his abductors on the ransom they demanded by now we would have been telling another story. But we thank God our Baba came back alive.

”The source did not disclose the actual amount paid but said the family had to appeal to the hoodlums to spare Falae’s life saying the kidnappers threatened seriously.

“So, in this kind of development, we should wait andbe listening to the police? My brother, forget. As far as I know, the police didn’t play any role in his release.

The family played ball with the abductors, and they took him back to his farm where he was kidnapped and dropped him there.

“Baba even said it when he got home that after the abductors had concluded their arrangements with his family, they took him back to his farm at Ilado and dropped him there.

“Baba said when his abductors dropped him, he trekked several kilometers from his farm to a hotel in owo where he met some policemen and introduced himself as Chief Olu Falae.

That was how the Police got to know of his release and hijacked the whole process as if they are the one who rescued him.

Only an unreasonable person will still give kudos to the police for the Chief’s release. We know who and who we should thank, not the police,” the furious family source said.

Meet Woman Who Has Died And Resurrected 13 Times

28-year-old Rebecca Morris-Roberts suffers an extremely rare condition which stops her heart and breathing until she is technically dead.

But seconds later, her body manages to 'jump-start' itself, bringing Rebecca back to life. She has suffered reflex anoxic seizures - thought to affect only four people in the UK - since she was a teenager. And they are usually brought on by a bout of nerves.

“My eyes roll up into my head, my lips and face turn grey, my body stiffens, I stop breathing and begin to convulse,” she said.

“When I go through it I’m out for the count and I don’tknow anything about it until I come around. My body somehow ‘defibs’ itself. It’s such an unusual condition and I have no idea what causes it.

I do something even superheroes can’t do – I regenerate!”So when she decided to tie the knot with long-term boyfriend Elfyn Morris-Roberts in April 2014, her family feared she might “die” walking down the aisle.

After much deliberation Rebecca, decided to have a pacemaker fitted just three months before the big day.“I didn’t initially want to have it.

From the age of 16 to21, I was told by various doctors that I was making it up and being a drama queen,” said Rebecca, who is originally from Wrexham.“So when I was diagnosed with reflex anoxic seizuresI finally felt like I’d taken control.

Mentally, I wasn’t ready for a pacemaker. I didn’t want to look back at our wedding photos and think something else was helping me live. But then I was told that every time I had an episode it would diminish my chances of recovery by 10%. I was living on borrowed time.

That’s when I realised I was being selfish so I decided to have it fitted – 54 years earlier than the average pacemaker.

”Adrenaline junkie Rebecca, who has worked as an outdoor activity specialist and loves canoeing and abseiling, said her wedding day went by without needing to call the paramedics.

“I have always had a fear of being in front of people and my father followed me around the whole venue because he feared something would happen,” she added.

“But I was completely relaxed. I was so proud to be sat at the top table looking at all the people who had been brought together. They all know what I’m going through and they didn’t pity me. I didn’t have to hide anything from them. It was incredible.”Former student Rebecca met love-of-her-life Elfyn during her time studying for a degree at Bangor University.

“I had been with him for eight months and then I was diagnosed so he was really thrown in at the deep end,” she joked.“He’s found me after a few episodes but he’s only properly seen one.

We share a bed together and whenmy breathing gets shallow he frantically wakes me up asking if I’m okay.

UN Appeals For Help For BokoHaram Displaced:Nigeria A No Show- Reuters

Ms Shonibare is right after all. This report below by Reuters confirms that U.S. and European Union diplomats were disappointed Nigeria Government didn't send anyone to the event.

The United Nations, Chad, Niger and Cameroon appealed on Friday for help for millions of people in the Lake Chad Basin region forced to flee the violenceof Boko Haram and hit with repeated droughts and floods that have brought malnutrition and disease.

But while the radical Islamist militants operate out of Nigeria and U.N. aid chief Stephen O'Brien said that is where most people have been displaced by their attacks, Nigeria did not send anyone to the United Nations event. U.S. and European Union diplomats said they were disappointed that Nigeria did not attend the event chaired by O'Brien on the sidelines ofthe U.N. General Assembly.

The Nigerian U.N. mission was not immediately available to comment on its absence.

A regional offensive by Nigeria, Niger,Chad and Cameroon earlier this year drove Boko Haram from much of the territory it held in northern Nigeria.

But the militants have since struck back with a renewed wave of deadly raids and suicide bombings."These (displaced) families are being used as ammunition because it is the children that are used as bombers in markets and in train stations," said Chad's Foreign Minister Moussa Faki Mahamat.

"Trade is virtually wiped out in this area." Several U.N.diplomats at the event warned that the aid emergencyin Lake Chad Basin risked being forgotten amid otherhumanitarian crises in Syria, Yemen and South Sudan.

Niger Prime Minister Brigi Rafini said the region was in the midst of a "genuine disaster." "We need massive assistance from the international community," he said.

"It is the population that has shared with these refugees and displaced people the little they have while they themselves are living in extremely vulnerable situations."The United Nations said some 2.3 million people have been forced from their homes since May 2013, and a quarter of a million of them have fled from Nigeria into Cameroon, Chad and Niger, many walking hundreds of miles.

"Droughts and floods hit the region repeatedly. Malnutrition and disease outbreaks hover at emergency levels. Some 5.5 million people do not have enough to eat," O'Brien said."The emergence of Boko Haram has pushed them over the edge.

" O'Brien said U.N. appeals for 2015 to help those displaced people and refugees in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger were all less than half-funded.

The United States on Friday announced$6.8 million in funding for regional aid efforts. -Reuters
